The Right Hand Duet

Het Rechterhand Duet, 2024
Wood panel, acrylic paint, colored paper, cardboard, tape, wire, blue-tooth speaker
40 × 30 × 6 cm

In The Right Hand Duet, Søren Vandegaard references the myth behind Antwerp’s name, "hand-werpen" or "throwing hands," through a creative piano duet. A woman plays the melody on the upper keys, while a man leans over to play bass notes, both using their right hands. The work blends 2D and 3D elements as arms spring from the panel, striking the keyboard. A hidden Bluetooth speaker amplifies an original piano composition, creating an immersive experience. This piece merges mythology, music, and sculpture, transforming a violent legend into a metaphor for creative collaboration.
